Sunset Science Park Federal Credit Union (SSPFCU) was chartered in 1960 by 8 people from Electro Scientific Industries (ESI). In 1977 the credit union’s field of membership was expanded to allow all employees located on Science Park Drive to join. Sunset Credit Union is governed by a Volunteer Board of Directors, so money generated by the Credit Union is given back to the members, not Stock Holders.
In 1994 the credit union moved off the park to its current location and expanded its membership base to include businesses and residence of the Cedar Mill area. Because the members wanted to refer their neighbors and friends to Sunset Credit Union, a Community charter was granted in 2016 to include anyone who lives, works and worships or attends school in Washington County. Credit Unions are not-for-profit, so their number one concern is helping the members that they serve.
